The mountains' silence seemed to have weight, pushing against all sounds, drowning them out. No breeze rustled the trees, no howls echoed from territories beyond. The only noise was the sound of one wolf running across the rocky terrain, following the scent of a rabbit. He was only just visible by the light of the rising sun. The wolf was strong enough to go on for miles, but the end of his trail was near. A cliff loomed ahead, blocking any escape. The dark wolf slowed, his nose on the ground, searching out the prey he had chased. He stopped suddenly, and observed the sight before him with narrowed amber eyes. A rock had fallen from the cliff top, and struck the luckless rabbit, instantly killing him. The rabbit was crushed, and some creature had already eaten part of it. His nose wrinkled in disgust, and he loped away, hoping to find more prey by the trees nearby his territory.
Shadow, as the black brute was called, disliked being near to the forest. They were part of a different territory, and the scent there were unmistakably those of another brute. Shadow didn't really feel like getting caught sticking his nose in somebody else's range. However, with the weather still cold, there was little choice for him. The forest, as usual, was filled with the sounds of life. Within five minutes, a fat pheasant waddled over to Shadow's hiding place. Shadow did not play around with hunting. He struck once, and that was the death blow. As he sat down on black haunches, munching pheasant, he thought of the felines. They toyed for hours without even trying to kill, so half the prey ends up getting away. Quite honestly, he suspected that the felines didn't have the brains to kill that wolf pup. The only felines he ever fought were mothers, and they were vicious, and still easy to kill with the right moves.
Shadow felt a sudden loneliness. He hated being here, alone, without even a single other wolf to talk to if he got bored. He almost wished that a wolf from another territory came. That might be interesting! He thought.

A rush of cold, mountain air weaved through a small, meager fae's pale grey and white pelt, as her eyes anxiously explored each sight among the outskirts of the forest, and up high on the mountain's peak. Teegan had been wandering for nearly an hour. She wasn't lost; just simply curious. She scented that this terra was claimed, and that it was dangerous to be here in case an alpha was present, but she was a loner, destined to wander the face of the earth for all of her lonesome days. She had no family, no friends, and nothing to lose.

She took caution when she stepped on a sharp corner around the edge of a rocky cliff, realizing that if she was careless it would mean her death. She often took daring routes, knowing that her life was simple; worthless. And anyways, she believed in the afterlife, so evevn when she was gone, she wouldn't really be gone. One could only wonder where they would end up. For Teegan, she was a goody-goody for the most part. Always obeying authority and such. She was often misunderstood; thought to be a shy wolf, when really she took time to observe things, rather than speak upon them.

A few small rocks and twigs cracked as Teegan stepped upon them, her lean bodice a massive weight compared to the small structures. She was sat down on a log near the edge of the cliff and yawned. Tilting her head back, she howled sharply, hoping that whomever dwelled here might stop by and keep her company.

A short howl reached Shadow's sharp black ears. His first thought was as to the whereabouts of the howl. He was a mix of relived and playfully sad that it was a female who had called. A good fight might amuse him. It wasn't that he was cruel, he simply liked the feeling of adrenaline rushing through his blood, giving him the power to crush bone and rip tendons. As for this fae, he would find her before making judgments. The sound had come from the cliffs he had been near, so he took the longer path to the top of them.
The path was exceptionally annoying. It was always covered with loose pebbles, and more than once he had to stop to remove one of the irritating things. Finally, he reached the top. The view was lovely, but the drop was not. One more thing he had to worry about. A possibly aggressive intruder, and now a twenty foot drop. Wonderful, simply wonderful. He was mildly surprised that the other wolf head positioned herself so close to the edge. Was it just to see the view? If so, it wasn't truly worth it. She looked like a good shove would knock her to her death. What is this one doing here? She hardly looks fit for this terrain. He thought scornfully. He flexed powerful shoulders, and arched his black neck. He had the advantage of size and knowledge of the area should this she-wolf choose to be unfriendly. With a confident air, he sauntered forward.
"What would a little fae such as yourself be doing here? It doesn't seem wise to howl your position to all those waiting cats." His tone was friendly, but it did have a mischievous note to it. It wasn't that the female was that small, actually. He just happened to be quite a large wolf.
